Silly Sentences

Silly Sentences is a game that Grandma and I like to play when we are in a mood to look at the world a little differently.

Rules (For two or more players):

  1. Pick a letter from the alphabet.
  2. Start creating sentences by using only words that start with that letter.
  3. Take turns, each person adds one word to the sentence.
  4. No word can be repeated within the sentence.
  5. All words must be real words found in the Dictionary.
  6. Youngest player goes first.
  7. Then next oldest, next oldest and so on.
  8. If you cannot think of a word that continues the sentence you are out of the game until the next round.
  9. The last person who has thought of a word is the winner.

Variations for older children (10 and up)

  1. You must repeat the sentence exactly and then add your word.
  2. If you do not repeat the sentence exactly you are out of the game until the next round.

Example:

Player one:

I pick the letter F.  Foolish

Player two:

Foolish frog

Player one:

Foolish frog Fred

Player two:

Foolish frog Fred found

Player one:

Foolish frog Fred found five

Player two:

Foolish frog Fred found five fish

Player one:

Foolish frog Fred found five fish floundering

Player two:

Foolish frog Fred found five fish floundering forever

Player one:

Foolish frog Fred found five fish floundering forever fixed

Player two:

Foolish frog Fred found five fish floundering forever fixed from

Player one:

Foolish frog Fred found five fish floundering forever fixed from physical

— Because player one used a word that did not begin with the letter F player two is the winner.

— Also, if player one could not think of a word to add onto the sentence player two would be the winner.
